Description:

Fontana Square is the central meeting point of the pinerolese area; it was designed in 1738 and it was built by paving the moats in front of the seventeenth-century walls.. This vast area was until 1830 the town fair, one of the largest in Italy; today it is home to the weekly markets. Inside there is a fountain with a monobloc basin in Malanaggio stone and the marble statue dedicated to General Filippo Brignone

Curiosity:

In Piazza Fontana every Saturday and every Wednesday, one of the three largest markets in Piedmont takes place. In addition, every year, an extraordinary event takes place that may be of interest especially to sports enthusiasts, and yes, it is indeed ‘the day of sports’, which is juxtaposed with ‘the day of belonging’. In fact, there will be stands that will provide a meeting with the Groups and Associations of the Pinerolo area in collaboration with the Lions Club, Pinerolo Acaja, Consorzio Vittone and Pro Pinerolo, and with the Military Associations on leave. In all, 32 organizations will be present with entertainment, gadgets and games; first and foremost, the Pinethlon initiative: an incentive to encourage the public to take part in sport free of charge; obviously, most of the sports (such as running, basketball, football…) will take place where there are equipped fields, i.e. in the Peace Park. However, in piazza Fontana you will be able to find different sports (that do not need a court to be practiced), such as dance, combat or artistic gymnastics. It is an initiative to open the doors of sport to everyone, because sport must be for everyone. We believe, therefore, that it can be a unique experience, useful for getting acquainted and seeing new sports.
