Beginning in 11822 the construction of the arcades that close the square began.
Since the 17th century, a grain market was held in this square, and later it was characterized by the sale of diversified goods: in the center were cloth, fish, and cheese, while along the side of the arcades were sold grains, legumes, and fodder.
