Description:
Work in progress
Called by the older Pinerolo residents “piazza della Breccia” because here, during the period of the second French domination of the city, there was a bastion of the fortified wall which the Savoy army blew up, opening a breach, in 1693 fter a long siege.
During those battles, the church of San Domenico, which at the time was the largest in Pinerolo, was also damaged and only partially rebuilt, leaving it with a curious covered atrium closed by a door
The climb to the breach was used both militarily and as a simple road from the city centre to the basilica of San Maurizio. It has this name because it is located near Piazza Marconi, also known as Piazza della Breccia.
