The current social theatre is a result of the renovation and of the partial rebuilding of the theatre,built between 1836 and 1842, the year of inauguration, thanks to the project of the architect Tommaso Onofrio di Canelli: since then, the social theatre has represented an important cultural centre in the area of Pinerolo for decades.

On 9th April 1972, a terrible fire totally destroyed the theatre hall, leaving only the facades intact. The project of the renovation was given to the architect Sergio Hutter in 1991, but the works started just about the end of the decade and finished in May 2008.

During the renovation, the facade of the building on Vittorio Veneto square was completely restored and today it is similar to the one of 1842.The real facade, on Giuseppe Verdi square, is on the contrary very modern and it was built with metallic rods and coated with clinker panels similar to bricks.

There is a contemporary work of art by the sculptors Paolo Albertelli and Maria Grazia Abbaldo, placed there in 2019. This work of art is made of corten steel, a type of steel that looks rusty after the oxidation process. It represents the silhouettes of larches in the memory of the trees that grew inside during the period of neglection. The stage was designed and rebuilt to host big events, so it is 200 square meters with the possibility to host up to 550 people.

After years of this use the social theatre is an important cultural centre in Pinerolo again, thanks to the great variety of theatre plays, concerts and dancing shows.
